Summer follows spring as the seasons change. The fiery god of love approaches inexorably, as in this song, which describes the sensations and effects of soothing warmth. The long-awaited summer is now here. "Summertime and the living is easy." Although that line is from a later time, it describes the same attitude to life. The trees are lush green and the earth is resplendent. Birdsong and the balmy breeze, melodiousness and festive song are everywhere, and everyone who is loved is blessed.

This pattern of expression recurs endlessly in both vernacular and Latin poetry of the Middle Ages. The combination of texts nos. 74, 152 and 141 from the Codex Buranus thus becomes a smooth summer hymn with a jazzy flow. If you’re looking for a summer song, here it is.
