Composer Peter Schindler on this separate edition from “Perpetuum mobile”:

“The world order is in disarray; people are only after money” (Mundus est in varium sepe variatus / Curritur ad vocem). Who could disagree with these plaintive lines from a goliard or travelling poet in text no. 226 in the Codex Buranus? Throughout history there have been political and social upheavals which have been blazed a trail for others; but here they are viewed with a critical eye. Human pursuit of money and riches didn’t start with gold rushes or Bitcoin. It is both astonishing and amusing to read these 800-year-old texts and realize how topical they are today.

The music is strictly metrical with a fast middle section; the rhythm is driving, as if to reflect the constant hustle and bustle of world events. Some verses are sung by a male choir, others by female voices only. Score available separately - see item CA.929500.
