This is the first published edition of a cello concerto by Marie Jaëll (1846-1925). The concerto is 4 movements with a total performance time of about 5 minutes for each movement. The cello part is 15 pages and the piano part, 32. This cello concerto is infectiously lyrical with a magical and joyful character. The piece is appropriate for professional cellists and advanced students who are ready to work on the standard concerto repertoire. It is not quite as difficult as the Dvorak cello concerto but would be a great piece to precede work on the Dvorak as it incorporates some similar technical elements. The concerto utilizes all 4 octaves of the cello and includes octaves, double stops, and descending semitone arpeggios. Three of the four movements have been recorded and are available on i-Tunes.
